I will be in my hometown of Montréal for the Québec premiere of “Two Soft Things, Two Hard Things” on Saturday, March 4th 7pm at Centre Never Apart. The screening is free and the venue is one that is close to my heart so I’m really looking forward to engaging with the community after that screening.
Instead of asking the usual questions to promote the screening, Never Apart asked me to write an article about any aspect of the film I wanted for their magazine. I decided to take up a little space to discuss our process, successes and failures in thinking about allyship throughout the making of the film. You can read the full article at neverapart.com. Talented photographer Saad Al-Hakkak also did a portrait for the magazine while I was there ☺️. Hope to see March 4th!
During Toronto Pride this year, RuPaul himself, made a surprise appearance to give a heartfelt speech on what Pride means to him. Not only did I get to film his speech, but I also asked his Drag Race alums Bianca Del Rio, Chi Chi Devayne, Derrick Barry, Kim Chi and BenDeLaCreme about what Pride means to them and how they are dealing with the tragedy in Orlando. Check it out below and please donate to the #WeAreOrlando fund if you can.
During Toronto Pride this year, I got the opportunity to talk to Bianca Del Rio, Chi Chi Devayne, Derrick Barry, Kim Chi and BenDeLaCreme about who they are cheering for in the upcoming RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race – Season 2. Check it out below and stay tuned for more videos from pride including more of RuPaul himself.
The time has finally come. My 1 hour documentary This is Drag will premiere on OUTtv right before the premiere episode of Rupaul’s Drag Race – Season 7 on March 2nd, 2014 at 8pm and 11pm EST/5pm and 8pm PST! It provides the perfect closure to the last season of Drag Race as I followed Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano, Courtney Act and many more as they schlep from one gig to another during World Pride in Toronto. What resulted is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at performance, glamor, fame, family, love and sacrifice. Not only for these post-Drag Race queens, but many others in various stages of their careers.
Unfortunately, the documentary will not air outside of Canada (it’s complicated!) which makes it a Canadian exclusive. In fact, even the trailer is geo-blocked and can only be viewed in Canada. So if you live outside Canada, you might want to ask your Canadian friends to DVR it or something like that.
It will also air again on Monday, May 18th at 8pm EST before Drag Race and attempts are being made to put it up on iTunes very soon.
This summer I had the opportunity to follow some of the world’s most renowned drag queens for 4 days as they schlep from one gig to another during World Pride in Toronto. What resulted is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at performance, glamor, fame, family, love and sacrifice. Starring Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano, Courtney Act, Darienne Lake, Alyssa Edwards, Shangela. The full 1 hour documentary will air on OUTtv in Canada in early 2015. I’ll post details for air dates as soon as they are confirmed. In the meantime, check out the trailer below (only viewable in Canada).
While filming a behind-the-scenes documentary on all the queens including Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano, Courtney Act and Darienne Lake, at Toronto’s World Pride this year, I managed to sneak in a couple quick interviews amongst the chaos. Adore and I had pizza and it looks like someone was a little tired on day 4 and it wasn’t Bianca! You can check them both out below.
World Pride will descend upon Toronto next week and throughout it all, my talented crew and I will be following the Season 6 Winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Bianca Del Rio, as she rushes from one crazy gig to another.
The feature documentary will be a candid and personal look at the art of drag amidst what is shaping up to be the biggest pride celebration North America has ever seen!
Bianca is slated to appear in the Mark Kenneth Woods-directed documentary alongside RPDR Season 6 runners up Adore Delano and Courtney Act, the legendary Christopher Peterson, Darienne Lake, Alyssa Edwards, Shangela and many many more!
The documentary is expected to air in the fall of 2014 on OUTtv in Canada. And I suspect our friends in the US will get to see it too 😉
